    2002 Duramax

Folks im looking at a 2002 2500hd with a duramax that has 146,000. They are asking 14,800. It has banks six gun on it. should I be skeptical about buying a diesel with a tuner on it?

i have an 02, bought it 2 years ago with 130,000 on it, it was bone stock i paid 10k for it it is an extended cab though. just check about the injectors on it mine were replaced under warrenty. only things ive had to go or had problems with is the Fuel Pressure Regulator and some high pressure power stearing lines i have 190,000 on it now and its still running good getting about 18mpg

just ask the guy if they had any injector work done before warrenty the 02s were bad about the injectors and i always run it with ATF in the diesel too just to keep them lubricated good

I would guess most 02 have some kind of program on them. I even put one on mine and I'm usually against them. If used correctly they really make a difference. If used incorrectly they will make it go way fast till something breaks. I have a 50 hp program and 50HP injectors. Like said earlier, I would be more interested on the injector history.

Historically when do the injector problems arise? Just wondering at 146,000 the likely hood that issue had already exposed itself.

                140-150. Replaced mine at 140. $3500.00 worth.

If the injectors haven't ALL been replaced don't buy it. They WILL go out and it'll be expensive. The six gun is not a "tuner" exactly. It changes nothing on the ECM. It is wired into the truck and alters signals given to the ECM to increase power. But Banks is a quality company and their stuff won't screw up trucks by itself. They are very mild compared to what else is out there. I had the six gun before I went to EFI.

I ended up buying a 2007 with 119,000 on it instead. I like it so far. seems real powerful.

A better motor version IMO, even though I drive an LB7. Hope you continue to enjoy it.

I don't know if you're hung up on getting a Chevy but I've got 225K on my 2001 F-250 7.3PS. No problems so far except one HP oil pump O-ring. No tuner... bone stock.
