When dad and I were running the cow/calf operation at the ranch back in the 60's ( I started working there really young...was driving tractors, moving irrigation pipe, etc. by the time I was 8) we had this great purple spray we used to doctor cattle with (the purple dye was to remind you to reapply when it wore off).
It said in big bold letters "For Veterinarian use only!" I don't know what was in it but it was a freaking miracle drug. It wasn't the same as the purple wound spray you get now. I'm assuming it had some ingredient that the government now requires to be eliminated or diluted because the stuff you get today isn't nearly as good.
I was an active kid and constantly getting cut and scraped and used that purple wound spray on them. I would heal 5 times as fast as I would using the "people" drugs...
The only real downside was the social stigma of going to elementary school with big purple splotches on elbows, knees, cut fingers, etc. I thought it was definitely worth it to get healed.
Anyone else "go purple" when they were a kid?
