    Feeding out feral hog

Bseides feeding out a feral hog for the freezer, what are some good recommendations for better meat??

To be honest I try and shoot only smaller pigs for eating. I have never had one that was rank. I know a lot of people keep them on ice in an ice chest for a few days. Draws a lot of the blood out

I've always found pregnant sows to taste best!

we raised out 3 small hogs (15-20#) we caught last year-moved them to a 2nd trap that was set up over a garden. we injected them with antibiotics and they had all the ricebran they could eat along with corn and alfalfa. almost tripled their wait over 3 months before they made the trip to the freezer.

Honestly, I think it's hit-or-miss. The best wild pig meat I've ever had came off a 200 lb sow that I figure was probably 3 or so years old. Process them carefully and get the meat on ice quickly is about all you can do. I've had a lot of wild pig that was really good, but I've had a lot wasn't. I think there's too many unknowns with feral pigs that make predicting how good the meat will be a total wild card.

Cut any boars and once you pen them and feed them out with hog shorts and corn they will change flavor and loose some of the gamey taste.

This. I've killed a bunch, every size and color, and this is my observation also. It either is or it ain't. Not sure why it's that way. I'm glad WT deer arent that way.

This is JMO, but I only eatem if they are under 100 pounds normally... If you do this you shouldnt have any issues with real wild taste...

Bleed it on ice and grill it outside on an open top pit, flavor with BBQ sauce to taste.
The sows I mix in with deer burger to make smoke sausage.

I just had some chops off of a 300lb boar. You never would have known it was wild. I was told the trick was to fry a small piece in a skillet and if it stank toss it. Don't know if it always works good, but he seemed to be spot on this time.

We get vegetables being thrown out at the farmers market and discarded tortillas from the factory. Those tortillas put some fat on em quick. We also feed corn
