It is my least favorite of the many taxes we have to pay.
The harder you work and the more of your money you put into a place the more the county wants to charge you to live there.
I have 16,000 square foot that I covered with rocks because it was too muddy to drive or even walk across.
I had planned to have it astfault, the county told me they would tax me at $4:00 a square foot if I pay to have it done.
It is hard for me to wrap my head around it. They will not be investing one penny in the work but if I do it they will proudly send me a bill for their juice.
Some how everything got turned up side down. If a fellow wants to lay down, the gov will feed and house you. If you work seven days a week they penalize you for it.
What happened?

Did the appraisals come out? Haven't seen mine... but I am in Travis county... and that is a bad thing.
Last year my neighbors, on both sides of me... their appraisal went down about 9% or so each. Mine went up 8%. They did not have a believable reason for it. those folks really tick me off. I had rather them raise sales taxes than have property taxes. It is very difficult for the elderly.Last edited by Huntindad; 04-06-2014, 05:28 PM.

I hate property taxes, they the most sinister and the antithesis of what our founders envisioned. They are proof we never truly own any real property in the US. Don't believe me, try not paying your property taxes and see how it goes!
Pile on top the ambiguous & mythical values they assess. Can you imagine the uproar that would be had if an elected official had to explains 10% tax increase? So they just re-assess & inflate the value of the property by their desired amount & pat you on the back for having a more valuable piece of property while they pick your pocket with the other hand
