last guy i took my boat to said the motor was burnt up. first thing he asked was "how old is the water pump?" i told him it was less than a year old and YOU DID THE WORK. now, its blown up? aint no way. yes the hi temp alarm came on while i was driving. i stopped, check oil reservoir (which i knew it had oil), checked water pressure, water stream coming out. water wasn't extremely hot, it was warm. turned key back on, no alarm. (if it was still hot, the alarm would still be audible, correct?) started up again and idled like it always had. ran for about a half mile and alarmed again. stopped added oil to gas tank. just in case oil pump stopped working. started up, no alarm, ran another mile or so and alarm again. . turned around and idled back to boat ramp. no alarm while i was idling. never lost power, never had a miss or sputter. just an alarm. i figured it was just a bad alarm.

so, who do y'all use for outboard maintenance in the NW Houston area? or Houston in general. i aint opposed to driving if they fix it right and are honest.

there is also a sensor on the oil injection that will alarm if you get to much condensation in the oil. i find it hard to believe that the motor is damaged.

Hey skeeter! LanceKnny has been the service manager at the largest Skeeter dealership in the country for many years. One of his techs also happens to be one of the most genius Merc guys on the planet. I'd listen to what he says.

            believe me, I'm listening!

its hard to know who to believe when it comes to stuff like this. some of these guys can feed u a line of BS and expect you to sit there and say, "OK" hoping don't know. kinda like telling you to change out your muffler bearings or use a different blinker fluid.

                  Highly recommend.

And Yamaha's. I was just there Friday picking up some parts. The guy is about as honest it gets.

Suggest doing a compression check before bring the motor for repairs. My 1997 mercury had a very similar alarm and needed a new oil reservoir lid. The oil reservoir is pressured by the engine.

Boy you nailed the price on this. Just did most of these things and it was $1600. I had water in my fuel (good ole ethanol) and ended up having two injectors that needed to be redone. It was only another $120 to do the other four so I went ahead and did all 6. Anyway, Meeks is a good place but I have used Mickey's Marine in LaMarque for the past 15 years. Very straight forward and have always treated me right. Give them a shout and tell them I sent you.

Do you have a constant tone or intermittent beep that won't stop? Does it happen as soon as your ignition is turned on? If you have a beep that won't stop it could be the oil reservoir float switch. The float magnet fails it's a very common problem and an easy fix.
