    Oak tree question.

We have oak shinnery on our place and we also had what I thought were some large love oaks mixed in. But they have lost their leaves. So that rules out the live oak. So my question is, is there a name for the big oaks that come out of the shinnery? Or is still just referred to as shinnery? Thanks, Brice

I always just thought it was still a shin oak that just had better access to water as all the taller ones I see in the shinnery are in depression where water would catch compared to the rest of the trees around it.

Live oaks do lose their leaves tho--just not in the fall like most deciduous trees, but in March/April around here. Right now mine are in the process of flowering--and those male catkins (pollen) are everywhere.
