    Help personalizing a hide

My daughter shot her first deer last year and she wanted to get the hide tanned since it had no horns.

I'd like to find a permanent way to put her name, date, and location of the kill.

Other than writing it in Sharpie, does anyone have any ideas?

Thats what I was thinking. On the backside of the hide.

We have one of those wood burning pen things but I would think that would go straight through the hide.

Maybe have somebody sew it in?

You could do it yourself with fake sinew and make it a craft project for you and your daughter. You can get needles, fake sinew, and a hole punch from Tandy Leather for about $20 total.

Not sure since I've never done it. Just seems like best chance for success while keeping a clean look.

I'd probably cut the characters down to just initials, date, location or ranch name.

How about having an iron on patch made for the backside.

I have used a wood burner with good results on leather before. It smells while you are doing it but looks good when finished.

                        Interesting idea.

I was thinking something along these lines too.

sew the hide to a cloth backing, embroider the backing however youd like?

That would be great if it didn't damage it. I have an axis hide. Maybe I'll practice on it.

No help but you need to tell her to smile next time she is doing a LDP
