I am looking at getting a new camera, I will be recording hunts, archery tournaments and misc stuff. I am looking at two cameras, the Canon GL2 and XL1. I know size wise the GL2 will work well with most tripods, camera arms, etc. The XL1 however is probably a more profesional grade camera. What input do you guys have for me....sugestions, etc.....How many features will I miss out on going with the GL2? Pros & Cons....Thanks

That would be the Canon XL-H1A and it is their new small frame HD camera. If I needed a new camera right now, that's what I'd be shopping for!

Ok, goind HD seems like the right direction to go in but price on these new cameras is a little high for me right now. Does anyone have any input on the smaller cameras like the Canon HF10 and similar models, I know this is a lower end camera with fewer features but will it get the job done in the woods and field? I spoke with a couple of different people at camera shops that specialize in video and they said that alot of people are going with these everyday HD camcorders and getting great results....I know over time that I will upgrade and probably get better equipment but is this a good place to start?

tx_poptart,
We jumped to HD last year... but with so many people going to HD, you may, and will be able to find some reasonable deals Canon GL2's, XL1s, & XL2 and something like the Sony PD-170 as well.
All these cameras are really good.
(they wipe out the compact VHS camera we started out filming our hunts with).
It really depends on your plans for the future?
We love our XH-A1, but it is more camera than you need if your filming to share with friends & family.
Good Luck.

I guess it depends on what you want to do, but I'll tell you a little secret, up until about 2 years ago, most hunting shows were filmed non Hd and several that you'll watch this year were filmed non HD. However, having said that, more and more are. But, you get the idea that it doesnt take HD to make really good lookin video.
