PSA for Anybody Considering Purchase of DJI Phantom II or other UAV

Playing around with a little video project. Don't fly your Quad until you watch this video!

Those are cool toys, makes it easy to scout for hogs over a large area...just need a thermal or night vision to catch them at night. One more thing to spend money on.

I lost mine on Saturday working cows... it just flew off on me...

I'm going to either find it... or when I get a new one... put a SEPARATE GPS tracker on it...

      Kinda down on it now.

      EDIT:

Oh... nice advice... guess I should have watched the video first... haha

You do know that there is a "find my phantom" button in the DJI app correct?

It sent me to a location and mine still wasn't there...

        I'm ordering a tracker today!

        Thanks for the warnings Michael!

Ouch! Seems to be a pattern. I'd notify DJI, as they insist that they've only had a handful of fly aways reported.

I think the find my phantom may be exclusive to the Vision? I wonder if it utilizes GPS or wifi?

No.... check out the app... it gave me a specific point close to where I was... but it wasn't there... dunno...

On the plus side... you can no joke work cattle with it.

            They hate the thing.

How big of a landing area do these things need? Could i land it on the deck of a marlin fishing boat (54')?

                You'll need at least a 58 footer...

In the video linked, Michael picks it out of the air with his hand. Just need a clear path in from the rigger's. Up on the bow?

Must be instincts acquired since all the UFO cattle mutilations.

neat little unit. how durable is the UAV? if you do have a fly away, will it survive the crash down? if it comes from together when it hits the ground, the tracker aint gonna do much good right? how far can a fly away be? miles?

Seems patience is paying off for me. Glad I have been in the process of changing DSLR systems. That has kept me at bay from jumping on a DJI.

Doesn't the WIFI from the Go Pro interfere with the GPS system?
