I have been in the restaurant business (20 years in mgmt) my whole life and have looked into it several times and unless you are looking at a sandwich shop like Subway or Firehouse you will likely need $100k-$250 in liquid assets to even be considered. It is very expensive but can also be very rewarding. I have a friend who owns 7 Subways and has for 10+ years and he loves it.

I work in the commercial food industry and thinking about something along the lines of subway. It's a small type place but has potential IMO.

Understand what the FDD is saying..........best to have a franchise lawyer to really understand the guardrails. Talk to the current franchisee's to understand the breakeven number, relationship with franchisor, average yearly net profit, labor costs, food costs, gross per square foot. Tons for great options and definitely the fastest growing segment in America!!!

Chick Fil A is a great company but pretty sure they don't franchise. They do treat their GM's like partners and they are great to work for.

Absentee franchisee's don't exist-or at least don't last from what I have seen. Unless you have someone very trustworthy to run it you WILL spend a lot of time dealing with it. I would look at other ways of investing the $ if you don't have time to be involved.
