This. I was thinking the same thing with my male 14 yr old lab. He was wetting in the house and HAS NEVER done that.. I was worried he had started to loose control. Come to find out.. he had an infection and fourteen days of meds and we are all good. Pay the cost and have a full blood panel work up at the vet. You will be thankful you did. Angie

I just had to do this to mine. She developed a malignant tumor on her paw that started bleeding and became swollen and infected. She would not take the antibiotics (couldn't even shove them down her throat), and her condition started to get worse (couldn't walk, wouldn't eat much, and didn't pee/poop). I knew she wanted to hold on, but at almost 12 years old, the only option would have been to amputate her leg- without knowing if the cancer had spread. Cancer treatment was not an option as I don't have the $$$.

It was definitely one of the hardest things I've had to do and watch. But I was determined to be the last thing she saw on this Earth. The injection took her within seconds and I still have that image of the life leaving her eyes in my head. But I am happy knowing she is not suffering, nor did she have to suffer a horrible death.

There is no 'time' to put them down when they get old, and the only recommendation I can give is that when your dog has more 'bad' days then 'good', it's probably time. As long as she is still eating, peeing/pooping, and wagging her tail, then I'd say you still have time with her.
