    HFD Guys....

I'm thinking of applying for the certified FF/Paramedic academy, but I wanted to ask a few ?'s.
    1. What can a new FF expect to earn monthly?
    2. How much OT is available to new guys?
    3. How long before I can work my PT job again.
I've heard different answers from people, so I thought I would ask people who've been there. Thanks for any info.

Look on the city website for the pay scale. I believe being a paramedic you will make low 40's to start. When you get done phase testing (6 mo) you can probably work all the OT you will want. You are not suppose to have a second job till you are off probation which is 14-16 mo or somewhere close to that. But with the OT you probably wouldn't need the side job. Great retirement as long as we can keep the **** mayor out of it.

That's what I'm worried about, not being able to work my PT job. If I leave where I'm at now, it's a 20k cut in primary income, plus the loss of PT. I've heard great things about the retirement though. Yeah, the mayor doesn't seem to FD friendly to say the least!

Subscribed, 1 other question, how long should a ff/medic expect to ride a box?

I've been told 4-5 years on the box. I could do that time on a squad, not a box, without going totally nuts!
