    Does tea dehydrate you?

Ive been drinking unsweetened tea (vs sweet tea)for a year or so. I usually put artificial sweetener in it. Recently I've went to drinking just water. Seems like the tea tends to dehydrate me. I do Crossfit 4 days a week, after work, and it just seems like I get dehydrated easier if I drink several large glasses( extra large styrofoam cups) over lunch.
The main effect I'm seeing is dry mouth and throat. Due to my allergies, and contested nose, i normally breathe thru my mouth while exercising, which I'm guessing adds to the dry mouth/throat issues. Anybody else have issues with this?

          Depends on the concentration.

I don't think it is much of a diuretic. It is to some extent but not likely to dehydrate you. There are probably people reading this forum that drink two pots (or more) of coffee a day and they get way more caffeine than a tea drinker. If it was a powerful diuretic, they would almost blow away in the wind.

Yes but not enough to make a difference.

Just alternate glasses of tea and water.

I drink green tea instead of coffee. Not long after the tea, I'll either be hitting the head or wetting my pants. It's definitely a diuretic.

It's an aquaretic, which is a sub class of diuretic. It causes the excretion of free water. It has nothing to do with caffiene.

So yes, it will dehydrate you, and faster than coffee will.

                          Could be age related....

How are you re-hydrating after work outs? Are you putting salt back in to hold water?

Everything is age-related. But nothing else makes me need to pee as fast as green tea.
