Dish Network Installer / Satellite Internet

I am trying to figure out a way to get Satellite internet at our lease in Northern Mexico. I was able to talk to a tech person at Dish Network and after sending a few maps to explain where I was located, the guy told me he was 99.9% sure that I'd I have a signal. They don't officially service Mexico, so he couldn't say for certain. Our ranch house located roughly 40 miles southwest from Carrizo Springs, Texas.

I want to buy a package for sat internet and TV and their internet service is through WildBlue. I had planned to use my permanent U.S. address to make the order and then take the equipment to the ranch and do the set-up on my own.

Apparently, when you order service, it goes to a 3rd party provider who then comes out and does the installation. In addition, the tech guy did say that the set-up for sat internet was a more precise process than simply setting up for TV. I would like to find someone, preferrably in South Texas who can explain to me how do this and/or if it is even possible.

Does anyone on TBH do this type of work OR does anyone know someone who I could contact directly? I am more than willing to pay whatever the typical installation fee would be if I can just find the right person to talk to. I am not tied to the idea of using Dish. If DirectTV or some other provider is better, please don't hesistate to say so. I simply want to find the best possible solution.

If someone is kind enough to respond, please shoot me a quick email and I am more than happy to give you a call or give my U.S. cell phone number. Thanks so much.

I have never had this service but when it first came out I think the satillite portion was only the down link. You still had to have a phone line for the uplink. Is that still true?? If that is the case wouldn't you have to have a phone line at the lease???

          Hey Jeremy!

I had DirecWay out here at my house until SBC DSL became available. First, DirecWay is now Hughes net and I don't recommend them at all. I have heard that WildBlue is better.

I remember that getting the internet set up was much more of an ordeal than getting the Dish Network set up. They did in fact have a third party guy come out to do it and he seemed to do quite a bit of programming type stuff with his various devices. So, I can believe what they told you about it being more precise. You may need to pay one of their installers a few extra bones to come down there if thats possible.

I tried to have it moved once and, rather than paying the ridiculous fee they wanted to charge, I paid the guy down at the satellite shop (which had switched to WildBlue) $100 to do the set up. Short story, he was unable to get it dialed in because he needed some special satellite codes from DirecWay and they would not provide them since he was not longer DirecWay certified. Fortunately, after many calls, I got the DSL within a few weeks.

Overall, my 18 month experience with satellite internet was pretty painful. I had a couple of equipment issues, where the equipment had to be replaced, but not before I spent a couple of hours on the phone with someone at a call center in India.

Like I said I think WildBlue is better, that is why our local satellite shop switched to them. I am certain you have done this, but I would encourage you to consider any other options (such as the wireless internet from the cell phone companies etc. or even dial up if you have phone service).

          Good Luck!

JL, call Houston Media Systems at 281-464-0101. I worked for them through most of my college years doing tv installs then went out on my own in home theater. They specialize in everything satellite and were one of the "pioneers" in making things work when they weren't supposed to. We did many installs in exotic places all around the Caribean and the owner has contacts and various dealers throughout Mexico, Central America and overseas as well. They would be the ones to help you or will put you in contact with who can and will take care of you. Tell them Keith told you to call.
