Son and I went to Granger today and just got into some AC!!
We parked at 29 and the river and hiked about 1 1/2 miles in.
We saw/heard a dillo, made it almost to my favorite tree and saw another dillo, decided to take a practice shot and missed and broke my carbon arrow. LOL!!
We then settled down near my hunting tree and 45 minutes later a racoon surprised us and walked within 12 yards before he saw us, he stared us down for 20 seconds and walked away. He was a good size one also, not fat but big!!
just as we were about to leave , we saw a doe about 45 yards running along the river trail from north to south. son was amazed (he is only 10!).
As we headed out we surprised a red fox I think it was as he leaped out of a dead tree and ran toward the river.
As we got close to our truck, another dillo leaped out and ran for cover!!
We were exhausted but had a great time.
Looks like the hogs are grubbing the tree areas and the walking paths after 1/2 mile into Willis creek are gone, filled with vines and dry grass. We had to force our way to our spot the last 3/4 mile.
We had a blast and it will be easier next time as we made a path and now know what to expect.
That coon is a dead coon next time!!
At first he was a little scared and timid but opened up, he said this is totally different from deer hunting and I said yes it is!!
What made me happy is he said thanks and when are we coming back again as we got into my truck!!
