    Ar-15 ???

I do not know a whole lot about these kind of guns. I do know i like driving around the lease in the off season shooting coons off feeders and other varmits with my .17hmr. (works great in w. tex, with no hogs) I have gotten on an additional lease in E.Tex so I would like to upgrade to an AR-15 (good excuse and no telling what we will be able to buy after the election) Do I need to buy a colt or are other manufactures up to par? I would like to spend around or less than $1500.. Thanks in advance for your help

Holy cow for 1500 you can buy a down right nice setup! No need to buy a Colt, as most other mfrs are produced the same way as long as they are done mil spec. Try looking at DPMS, CMMG, del-ton, and check out www.ar15.com for a HOST of others.

For pretty close to 1500.00 you could get a custom one made in 243 wssm if you wanted a little extra punch (look up Dtech on Pretatormasters.com if interested, he is a sponsor on that sight). The new remmies are nice I hear, pretty much a bushy though. I wouldn't even consider a colt if I were buying a new one. DPMS, Bushmaster, Remington, Rock River Arms, Armalite, or Stag Arms in whatever configuration you are looking for.

I have a Rock River and it works fine for what you're describing. If my life was depending on it - I'd go with Colt.

You can get a 20in Bushmaster for complete minus scope for 1000. Or you can build one bad mofo for about 1000. Then of course what kind of glass you want?

Eotech's are great for short range. Or you could put some long range glass. Me. I prefer both!

I hope to have my 20in long range gun and my 16in gun completed here within the next couple of weeks. That's if my upper ever comes in! ARRRGH!

Just a heads up Rock River is backordered for about the next 12 weeks. Just called them this morning.

Picked up a RRA with new half handguard and two stage trigger for less than $1K, new and no wait time.

Colts are overpriced. Rock River, Bushmaster and DPMS all make good rifles. My experience is not match or target but hunting. Upgraded barrels and triggers for the most part are not necessary. I have a Rock River with an EO-tec

All producers he mentioned have problems with proper Castle nut staking and proper staking of gas key torx screws.... Bushmasters are hit and miss but are showing some improvments..
