Brush hog for 44hp Mahindra 4x4

I am getting ready to buy a brush hog for my tractor. Trying to decide whether or not I need a 6' or 5'. Any valid reasons for not getting the 6'? My tractor is 7' wide.

    Thanks

If you want to mow right next to a fence then you need the mower to be wider than your tractor. Also, the standard is make sure you have 5hp per foot if mower at the PTO and you should be good.

So a 7' is what you need.

Yes, I have heard that before, unfortunately there is a big price jump between the 6' and 7'. I don't have that much area to mow anyway. That is why I wondered if the 5' would be okay.

I agree on the 7-8' range, but 6 would suffice if you aren't mowing much. 5' is tiny. Heck, wal-mart sells 60" mowers. If you have more than like an acre, stay away from the 5 foot IMO.

Personally, I would search for a good used 7-8' if price is the issue.

I have the same tractor, get the 7' . Even if you have to go with a used one. I used to have a 5' and it is a pain trying to mow with out leaving uncut strips and the fence line is impossible. Plus you save a ton of time with the 7'.

Yep, get a 7' or 8'. I have a 6' with about the same HP tractor and sure wish I would have gone a tad bigger on the shredder.
