You guys that have the shield let me know which one you think is the best and how do they shoot. Friend up here has a pawn shop and has plenty of the 40's but always out of the 9mm.
I don't have either but a buddy has both and loves them! As far as caliber goes, I like the 40 over the 9, from past law enforcement experience. One thing about TBH, you will get an opinion when you ask, then it's up to you to decide, lol!!
I guess it is personal opinion about the 9 vs 40. IMO, if you like less kick and less stopping power, go 9mm...
My buddy just picked up two 9mm. I compared the sizes of each frame and they are both the same size in the sub compact arena. The 9 does come with a 7 & 8 rd mags, vs the 40 with a 6 & 7 rd mags.
The 9mm, .40 and .45 all have virtually the same "stopping power" with modern ammo, they are all just tools to get you back to your rifle which is a much better self defense weapon. Don't believe the hype that a .45 or a .40 is better than a 9mm, it actually depends on the bullet and the medium you've gotta shoot through to get to the body.
I prefer the 9mm because I get the same results on a human target and much more capacity, with less recoil to boot. I carry a 9mm at work and off duty and have no qualms about doing so.
I have a 40 and I am going to buy a 9. Based on what I have been seeing here lately, the 9mm is pretty much just as effective as .40. Plus ammo is much cheaper.
Thanks for the inputs, I had a Springfield sub compact 9mm but with all the muscle around my mid section a little uncomfortable, that's why I was thinking of the shield.
I've had my shield 9mm for about a month and for me it's a great ccw. I went with the 9mm because i also have a G19 and wanted to stay with one caliber for buying ammo. I've got a friend who recently bought one in 40 and loves it as well. Try to go to a range and shoot both if possible before buying.
If you have big hands then neither... I had a 9mm shield for about a week before I sold it to someone with normal size hands. Small gun just too small for me.
