Barbecue in Marshall & Jefferson area ????

Heading to Caddo Lake State Park this coming weekend for a few days and planning to eat one meal at the RiverBend Restaurant, and one at the Hamburger place in Jefferson but would like to find some good barbecue for another. Anyone got a good place up there...??

Riverport barbecue in Jefferson has always been a good stop for us.

I guess I need to go over there and try some food. I ate over there a time or two when my wife worked in Jefferson but its been a long time ago.

Bodacious is in Marshall. Marshall also has Neely's Brown Pigs, very historic, they serve their unique chopped beef, carolina style (somewhat).

Auntie Skinner's in Jefferson was always a place to go for fun as well.

                    Neely's is a Marshall Favorite.

I guess you have to grow up with it. I ate there and it was basically a Sloppy Joe sandwich. A little disappointed.

Big Pines is a great old catfish restaurant on Caddo Lake. Been there forever. Burned down at least once. Good catfish, though.

Bodacious in Marshall and Riverport in Jefferson are the only "real" bbq joints around and they are both good. Riverport made top 50 in the last Texas Monthly bbq edition. Dont waste your time at Neely's if you want Texas style bbq.

Thanks y'all I am definitely a barbecue snob. My preference is for a vinegar, mustard, tomato based sauce without a dry rub.. I've heard this combination referred to as a Texas sauce but don't really know if that's correct or not. I got my recipe from my dad over 50 years ago and he got it from his dad before him..

But I like to try new places, in fact recently we tried The Salt Lick and were disappointed in the barbecue itself. The service was great and the atmosphere was great.. the food sucked in our opinion.

I used to have a coach that had a bbq joint. That was the base of his sauce. I liked it. About the only kind like that I would use.
