What makes it worth it to you?

If you were looking at something fabricated out of metal, what would you be looking for that justifies the price. Would it be the quality and thickness of material per the project and or maybe ground down welds and the amount of extra labor involved in building something that is awesome or would you be more concerned with a cheap price?

You get what you pay for. Good welds don't need to be ground down. I would personally look for quality in the workmanship everything else will fall into place.

Depends on what the piece was for. I did decorative iron work for a while and welds weren't necessarily ground down as much as they were made to disappear so the piece looked to be one solid object never welded to begin with. If it's for work or functional use more than just to look at, I would focus on quality of materials and the welds themselves. As mentioned above, in that case a good weld doesn't have to be ground down. A good fabricator is going to expect/charge a little more but you are going to get it back in higher quality materials and construction, typically.
