I can only imagine how expensive that meat is. My oldest son wanted to show a pig this year but the starting cost for an "okay"pig was $350 and last year the resale price at our county show on pigs was 40 cents a pound. So he is stuck showing goats since we raise them already and the resale price last year on goats was $1.69lb

After three kids and over 100 show pigs this wasn't the first one we have butchered. However, I really didn't want to butcher the LAST one! Especially since our second to last one-a York at Austin last week- got pulled then classed out of the Yorks and then got pulled again in the cross class but he weighed out. Not exactly the way we wanted to end the old showing career.

Done that before. Nothing tastes better than a sifted Hamp. Kind of hard killing something you have raised for a few months, but a mesquite fire and alot of friends, and some good drinks made me forget about the personal ties.

That was better than selling it for market value at the show.

LOL I can shoot wild hogs, deer, and critters all day long but no chance of me shooting one of those show pigs. Just can't do it. I get one if my students to kill them and then I'm fine from there. No problem butchering them. Just can't shoot 'em!

We just finished off our last two show pigs. Best bacon I ever had made.

Got two more coming that didn't make sale.

My kids raise steers, but I buy a pig at the fair sale every year. Some of the best pork you ever put in your piehole.
