Ok...........so L.A. and Dallas have issues. No sign of a nationwide scandal but very bad management decisions based on greed (bonuses). My dad has only be going to the NOLA VA for about 18 months as he has private insurance but the experience has been stellar, efficient and praise worthy to date honestly! I have to hope the bad apples are smashed and cleared out of there roles immediately.

The VA is a joke with a punch line too obscene to utter. Anyone who willfully places their own greed above veterans' medical treatment needs to see the inside of a jail cell.
Landrover, your results are far from typical. I hope your dad's good luck continues. I believe your post is the first time in recorded history "efficient, praiseworthy" and "VA" have been used in the same sentence.

The DeBakey VAMC has done nothing but treat me with the utmost respect and bent over backwards to help me out when it came time to make appointments on top of excellent customer service. Their appts were always a month or so out, but thats to be expected with the amount of vets who go through this facility on any given day!
At the same time, the jackwagons who acted like the place was out to get them and were utterly rude and disrespectful towards the office staff members were treated in kind after a few de-escalation attempts from the workers. Frankly i was embarassed by the veterans' behaviors. Who i saw it the worst from were the Vietnam vets, but i would imagine that was a learned behavior based on their past experience with the entire system.

Here's my take on it--it's a leadership problem. The current regime in the White House put retired general Shinseki in as head of the VA-replacing retired general Jim Peake. Shinseki is the one who brought us the famous black beret, symbol of the Rangers, to all service members (less the Special Forces and Airborne units). Shinseki is not a doctor nor medical administrator. Lt Gen Peake was the Army Surgeon General--top doc--for the army and knows medical systems.
