    I'll second this^^^

My 7.3 did the same thing yours is doing. Replaced CPS twice with the O'Reilly brand and didn't help. Baught the Ford one and fixed it immediately and hasn't done it in 40K miles (249K on her now).

Also, FYI, the 7.3 can not be read by OBD diagnostics. You'll need either Autoenginuity or a higher priced reader.

I have an 03 7.3 and there was a recall on the Cam Shaft Sensor. Check with Ford before you go buy one.

Check your fuel filter. Mine always runs like a new one when I change it out.

Usally the tach will act up or quit work when the cam sensor goes. When it goes out the the truck will not start and when you turn the engine over the tach will stay on zero.

I've done the CPS and the injector pressure regulator. My edge programmer reads and deletes codes. Since replacing the IPR it's been running a lot smoother.

You may call the dealership or pm me your vin number. There was a recall on the cam sensor and if it's never been preformed they will replace it free of charge. I'm a Ford diesel tech

Also sounds like it could be the IPR (Injection Pressure Regulator) make sure the tin nut on it hasnt backed out....Or ICP (Injector Control Pressure) pull the sensor connector and see if you have oil residue inside sometimes the ICP pig tail will wear out too. Usually would throw a code but sometimes it won't. Pull the connector on the ICP then crank it up and see if the Idle smooths out. The Accelerator Position Sensor can also cause these problems.

If Tach is acting properly (at least registering) I wouldn't think its the CPS.

I have an '02 7.3 PSD...my check engine light has been on non stop for years....no problem. I was told it may have something to do with the wiring harness.
