    Squirrel Problems

We think we have squirrels that are getting in the attic of my dad's lake house. How do we catch them? I'm going to set up some Stealth Cams to try to confirm that its squirrels, but if it is I need to know how to get rid of them

I use spring traps with some peanuts on them. Works good for me.

the gopher traps . Basically just a giant mouse trap, will work just fine. Every grocery store and hardware store will have them.

Watching this thread as I'm fighting the same battle. The first concern is making sure they are out of the attic before I close up the hole they chewed. Then I gotta figure out how to catch them or they will just chew another hole to get back in.

I had the same problem a few years back. I sure did not want to plug the hole if there was a chance that there may be one in the attic. I ended up shooting the few squirrels we had before plugging the hole.

I've heard of some people putting a sort of wire funnel in the hole that allows the squirrels to sort of squeeze their way out, but not to get back in. Then when they're confident they're out, they repair the hole. Haven't tried that, but it seems like it would work. The sooner you evict them the better because they'll start nesting and having babies up there soon.

Getting too late in the year to catch or kill w/o knowing if there is a nest in your attic. I made that mistake once. House smelled REALLY bad for couple months.

I can't shoot them in my neighborhood, so I trap them. Bought this trap at Tractor Supply.

Catch 10 - 15 every spring in order to keep them out of my tomatoes.

Smear a little peanut butter on the pressure plate and press a couple of pecan halves into the peanut butter. Works like a charm.

what do you then do with the trapped varmint? Just wondering........
I say a pellet to the head is in order.

Don't worry if they are out or not to plug the hole. If they are in there, after a day or two they'll be hungry and in your trap for sure (or they'll chew their way out).

I take them to a park about 5 miles away and let them go.

Its a lot safer with little kids living all around me. Plus, the last thing I need is a nosy neighbor turning me in for killing them out of season.
