    Thinking about doing something new.

I have been in L.E. for almost 13yrs now and thinking about doing something new. I really enjoy welding and thought about pursuing that as a new venture to pay the bills. Is there any work out there that pays decent for welders?

I've heard that companies have a hard time hiring and keeping "clean" welders for any amount of time, is there truth to this?

    Thanks....

If you want "decent" pay, you're going to have to get on the road.

Pipeline, industrial construction, etc. I work in the heavy industrial construction field, and there, you have to go where the work is.

In my experience, guys who are just "shop welders" aren't paid nearly what field guys are.

Really depends on how good you are. There is a lot of money in pipelines.

I've got a cousin in NW Oklahoma that owns a pipeline company and he can't get enough help and it's that way with most of them. I'm no authority on pipeline welding but I know there are welding tests/certifications involved. Help wanted signs all over oil and gas country !! This winter has been lot's of work with temps in single digits !!
