I really want to swing by it some time. We were so close to a spring break trip that way this year but backed down.

    Great image by Noel.
Yeah, due west as the crow flies. I guess my post wasn't very clear. I was talking about trying to get there from Fort Davis to Marfa.

It's one of those places you have to find by doing a little extra road trippin'.

When we went I was expecting to find Prada Marfa IN Marfa and that's not the case!

Ah, thanks for the gang corrections... I typed Fort Stockton when I meant Fort Davis.

        Oops.

            Thanks.

Casey and I talked about it for years before we actually pulled it off.

It needs to be a TBH annual or Bi-annual thing.

I'm itching to go again but the Spring calendar is really full.

            The Window

Of course, Michael taking his RV made all the difference.

Legdog, I was just about to request a re-post of that awesome picture you took of The Window. Thanks so much for putting it up again. That place is one you'll never forget.

Haven't been in several years but be careful on river road. Last I been there it was still a primitive dirt road. Takes about four hours to get from one side to the other. Some of the creek washes have lots of loose gravel and will stick you if your not careful. Some areas of loose sand too. Four wheel drive is a must. We spent all of our time on river road too and camped up in the cottonwoods one night. Lots of scorpions and rattlers. We fished here and there, nothing but catfish and surprisingly clean looking. Back then we crossed the river in a jon boat and rode donkeys to boquillas, tied them up in front of the bar like we were in a john wayne movie good times.

You can reserve sites in tje basin and rio grande village online.
Backcountry sites are reserved at the visitor stations on first come first serve basis. I was there after spring break last year, but people told us they would just show up at the office when they opened to get their pick of available sites during busy times.

I've done Rio Grande Village twice in the spring. One time while there, it snowed in the Chisos. Due to that fact, I'm thinking the Basin camp ground could be quite chilly if tent camping.

You get this map from Panther Junction
Pick your camp sites per day.
Move every day and stay at a new back country site.
Chisos Basin will be packed for spring break.

camp 3 Pine Canyon Hike the Pine Canyon Trail at sunrise. Hike to the end of the trail...you will be amazed. Alpine meadows all the way!

It's only 900 ft down and 900 ft up.

. . . and I second the spiritual view of the window.
