With trips on the way...I'm thinking my teacher salary isn't exactly good money anymore.

    Ok...2 teachers salaries...still not over 100k combined.

I'm thinking a career change might be in order.

    Drug czar maybe? (I joke)

I work with a bunch of starving guys that make $200K+.

They all have big trucks, big boats and expensive broads....and that's about it.

Their thought processes are so off, it doesn't do any good to talk to them about it.

Some of them will leave a location after they think they've made enough money for a while.
A week later, guess who are the first ones begging to come back to work?
      That pretty much nails it!

My goal in life was a lean too, a fishin pole and a hound dog. While pursuing those dreams, I somehow managed to aquire a whole lot more. Jesus, two homes (small and modest), a whole mess of fishin poles, lost count of how many dogs (got them running all over the place in OK, think it's 5, not sure). Long story short, Way more than I had ever wanted. Best part of it is....I don't owe nobody, nothin. Well, I do have to pay my annual fine for owning property (property taxes).

Life is good if you give it a chance.

Ahh, the retirement! That's the good part.

A lot of golfing buddies (when I played) are ex teachers. They're doing good!

Some places have better retirement systems than others. Most of the really good ones are governement associated. (I throw teachers into government, kind of, almost).

I happen to be a recipient of a government pension. I get a military retirement and a va disability (offset from the military ... military 1500, va 300, I get 1200 from the military and 300 from the va, not real numbers). Kind of whacky, but that's the way it works. The money isn't really the most important part. The medical is (at least to me, I don't even use all the benefs). We go to the doc, take our medicine/treatment/surgery/whatever, go home and Medicare picks up a fraction. Tricare for life picks up the rest. I.E. we go to the doc and it doesn't cost us a dime. I die, the spouse still gets the same benefits.

My idea of wealth is being able to go to Walmart to buy groceries and load the buggy with whatever you want and not worry about the total.

Enough to take care of my family with money in the bank in case we need it, a nice home, food in the fridge, everything we need when we need it, money constantly going into our 401k, and play money on the side

Me and my wife have about $1500-2000 a month left over after bills and everything.... i put the majority into savings, and we splurge on nice stuff on occasion.... for example the deer in my avatar . I dont consider us to be rich, nor do i think we are hurting.... The only payments we have is our house and one care which we pay extra on every month to pay off sooner. I have been paycheck to paycheck 4-5 years ago and dont care to do that again. We can "afford" nice vehicles or a big home etc, but we choose tto save money and have fun and buy the things we want instead of being slaves to payments. Just because a guy makes over $100k a year doesnt mean he has to spend it all or finance the crap out of a bunch of toys!! with exception to cars and a house, we pay cash or do without. I still drive an 04 dodge ram with a bunch of miles on it, but its paid off and gets the job done. I have shopped for a new truck and just cant turn loose of the money....

This is my wife and I. However I coach so I bring an extra 8 grand in. But still not 100k combined. We will be at some point I believe. But our debt is low and I feel like we are very comfortable.... Now if we had trips on the way...

More than what I make right now. I am guessing 40% over normal bills. You know, mortgage, car notes, utilities, daycare, phones, insurance, etc.

I guess it all depends on your age and where you are in life. For me I think I'm doing alright for a person my age. I definitely want to improve my income and I believe I'm taking the appropriate steps to do so. There are some folks out there making 50k that are far more financially mature than those making 200k. I think it's more important to save for retirement and live within your means. I see so many folks out there with debt that would shock you.

We have decided to do away with debt completely except for a house note, but eventually we'll pay that off completely as well. It's amazing how much wealth you can accumulate by not paying the bank everything you bring home. By living within your means, living on a budget, and not worrying about what your neighbors think you can get years ahead of the game. Luckily me and my wife have realized this early in our lives and I think we will be far ahead of the majority of folks later down the road. We're prepared to make a few sacrifices now to have it pay off just a short time down the road.

Personally I don't want to settle for "ok" or a "decent living" I want more than that. I know it's going to take a lot of work but I'm prepared to make the sacrifices necessary. I'm young enough that if I start now with a lot of work and a little luck I can be fairly well off in 40-50 years.

                            Wealthy means having 4 mil+
Comfortable living is something as different as there are people.

In order to accurately answer this question, I'll need to know what "bad" money is.
