Things to do and eat in Beaumont

I'm going to be in Beaumont for few days with my family including 3 boys age 12, 9, and 2. What are some good activities to kill some time with the whole family? And just as importantly, I'm in need some restaurant suggestions. All advice appreciated.

There might not be much to do on the upper coast in the middle of the winter to keep young boys occupied. How long before you show up like in the next few days or in a couple of months?

From Beaumont to San Jacinto is only about an hour drive. I loved looking at the Battleship Texas when I was fairly young. Something about seeing those big deck guns seemed great, especially when you could climb on them. Then across the street is the San Jacinto Monument or the world's tallest monument column.

Beaumont also houses the Texas Fire Museum with several old pieces of firefighting apparatus (like over 100 years old) that might hold some interest to some children and adults.

That is kind of why I was wondering about time frame.

Most of next week will be in the 30's and raining. I wouldn't go out in that nasty mess, much less with young children. Now a couple of months from now...................

Pine Tree Lodge always has great food and gators to feed when the weather and water warms up. Bank and pier saltwater fishing in Port Arthur at Pleasure Island.

Museum of the gulf coast is good, Luke's for great burgers, Sugas, for high end southern style dining, Gator Country for kids, Al T's in Winnie, great food, try their boudain omelet, Heard there is a new eating place in Port Neches on the river, I'm not sure if they have opened yet. I moved from the area a few years ago. Born and raised in the Nederland. Babe Zaharias Museum, in Orange there is a place called Shang Ra La I think, its a walking type tour. Any other questions PM me.

The Wheelhouse is not open yet.

Maybe later this month or early April.

Several golf courses in the area. Several good eating places out by Walden Road, Cheddars is very reasonable. Pappadeauxs is good eatin but expensive. Lots of fishing in the area, if the hogs were on our lease I would take ya hunting, but for some reason they are gone. Starvin Marvins has good crawfish, Colorado Canyon is a family oriented Miniature golf/game arcade. Lot of good food in Lake Charles, if you want to drive a little bit(45-60mins).

as mentioned there are several museums in Beaumont, the fire museum has a huge fire hydrant outside painted like a Dalmation , the police dept has a museum inside the old jail, old weapons and photos, there are a couple of very old houses on or just off Calder that have been restored and also kept up for the early 1900's the river walk is between the fire and police dept off of main street, if you walk the path down it there is what appears to be storm drains that pour into the river,, but if you will notice the floor is flat in one of them,, it is old rum runner tunnels from the late 1920's,, they connected a lot of down town building from the era, including the original gulf states utilities building, the Terrell historical library, the old city hall building, the Jefferson Theater, the building that is now the Beaumont Retirement Hotel, across the alley from the theater.. also a couple of the bank buildings were connected also along with the old railroad warehouse building which now house Walter Humphries and Reaud Morgan and Quinn law firms..( i have been through a lot of the tunnels, which are pretty well sealed off now)
someone already stated the Colorado Canyon mini golf course..
a short drive away, in Orange they offer air boat rides through the marsh and on the Sabine river ( weather permitting of course).. not sure what shape sea rim state park is in after the Hurricanes....
a couple other guys already stated Floyds restaurant, papadeaux's is good especially for a chain ,,, for a great burger the Hamburger Depot, one downtown and one on hwy 69 south,,
several golf courses in the area, if it warms up village creek is very nice canoeing only a few miles to the north on hwy 96.. Parkdale mall is quite large with lots of stores and a game room ( i think its still there i rarely go to the mall anymore) i will probably think of some more stuff later

Its probably still too cold, but there is a Park in Anahuac that you can drive around and see tons of gators at. I have always been in the summer though.

Could go crabbing and fishing as well from one of the many piers.
