According the the article's close - the cat hasn't been spotted recently and Wildlife Officials feel it has returned back to the bordering forest. They protect them there and at least they tried to dart it without killing the animal.

Very possible, I've heard rumors that a couple raised for pets and circus work were released, or escaped, due to high flood waters.
