    Calling all mechanics

I have a generac generator in my motor home that started giving me a little trouble. The generator was not being used as I was utilizing 110 power for two years while I was working down in the Eagle ford shale. I would start it from time to time just to check on it. It always started with no problems. One day after I had started it I noticed that it had died b4 I shut it off. I restarted it and it did the same thing. I figured it was a safety shut off and was low on oil. Well I believe I was partially right as I put some oil in it this weekend and figured it would start right up. Negative, it turned over great and acted like it was trying but seemed like maybe it was not getting enough fuel. It has the electronic choke on it but it still is not starting. The plugs are firing so I guess my question is this. Do you think it might be a clogged or dirty fuel filter? Gummed up carb? Thanks for any help you can send my way! I am by no means a handy man but I am trying to see if I can fix it myself. It is a generac q-55g model.

with the crap fuel these days..carb....you can look into converting it to bi-fuel..run propane...never have that issue again..and the oil will stay cleaner

Carb -Drain all fuel- clean carb and air filter when you get it working store with some sea foam in tank.

I would pull the carb, take it apart and clean it. Drain the fuel tank and fuel lines. Take a little diesel and flush the tank and lines. Put everything back together and add fresh fuel.

Thanks, the problem is the fuel is fed from the mh's gas tank. I drove it home in October and put gas in it then.

Clean carb- if you don't run it they will get gummed up.

Thanks! It looks like it is unanimous that it is the carb. I will see if I can figure how to get the darn generator out of the basement cabinet. What fun what fun!!

I battled getting one out once. after rassling with it for a few hours I discovered a couple pins......pulled them and it slid out on something like a heavy duty drawer slide...

I had bought the rv used so I don't know if that was an add on or standard but look it over GOOD before u fight it.

If the motor home fuel tank is low it will not run. I think my motorhome has to be above 1/4 tank for the generator to receive fuel.
