    replacing sliding doors

With the new baby due in 3 months my wife has me on red alert to get the nursery finished. One of the items on the list is replacing the sliding closet doors (mirrors) in Skylar's (future) room. I'm not going to have trouble taking them off, I own a sledge if it gives me too much trouble, my issue is what to do with the flooring where the tracks are now. The flooring is made up of wood panels and I still have a few boxes of them in the attic, I just really don't want to have to tear up all the flooring in the closet if I don't have to. Any suggestions?

Is it too wide for doorway transition strips?

I think so, I haven't actually measured out the width of the tracking compared to the other transition strips we have where the wood meets tile, but it just seems like it would be too wide to put one down by sight alone. However, I'm also not sure if they make "extra wide" transitions or not. I haven't been able to find anything on Google yet.

call this guy..Derek..TBHer...713-408-9467..hge will charge you, but you will like the end result..he KNOWS wood flooring and should be able to fill that gap, with you left overs...he is the one most companies call to do their repairs.

What are you replacing it with?

BrianL- That's what I'm not sure about. Like I said, I have a couple boxes of the planking, I'm just trying not to have to rip up 45 sq ft of flooring to replace a 72"x 2 or 3 in strip. I'm trying to find some transition pieces wide enough, but it seems like they only fit about an inch and a half.

bwssr- I might end up having to call him. I'm trying to save money and do it myself. All of this baby stuff is a lot more expensive than I imagined. But thanks for the info and if I can't figure anything out I'll give him a call.

Are you going to replace with twin hung doors, or a solid panel slider door? I'm guessing twin hung.

                Can you post a picture?

I will post a picture when I get home from work today around 6. And I understand what you mean now, Brian. We were actually thinking about doing rod and curtain in front of the closet, the wife managed to find the exact same fabric as the bedding for the crib. If we do hang doors then we would probably be installing french doors (or trying to at least). She absolutely hates sliding doors in general, not just the mirrors.
