    Bicycle Question

Bought a road bike yesterday that has the "clip style" pedals, and I want to buy some "flat" regular pedals so I can ride wearing running shoes.I found some online that I like, and I was wondering if all pedals are universal? The pedals I found are on C.L.,and I'm pretty sure there's a no return policy lol. Thanks in advance

Yes, they all utilize the same spine and thread pattern.

If you really do want to go with a flat pedal instead of clipless, do yourself a favor and get toe clips with a strap. It will let you ride with proper form, applying power through the complete revolution instead of just when you're pushing down.

They are NOT all the same, some have 1/2" bolts and some have 9/16" bolts.

                I agree with PSD.
You'll be twice as strong on hills being able to pull up on the pedals insted of just pushing down.

FYI, the left foot pedal is not righty-tighty, its reverse threaded.

Unless you're doing triathlons, you'll benefit a ton from clipless and a good set of cycling shoes with the stiffest sole you can afford. Stiff soles transfer power from your whole foot instead of just where you contact the pedals. They also reduce foot pain on long rides

x2 on this. You are best off to visit a bike shop. The slight extra cost is well worth the service and advice you will get.

This. There are two different sizes but 98% probability yours is 9/16. If you are going to get serious at all I would reconsider the clipless pedals. At least I would look into bike shoes and pedals with toe clips. The difference is huge.

And remember... the left pedal is reverse threaded.

PSD,it'll be used for Triathlons.I'm gonna try to save some time in transition where I can,and if it were longer than a sprint I would get the clip shoes.

Thanks for the tip Muygrande, didn't know that.

Be willing to bet the one on C.L. is the oddball size…I'll just go back to Sun & Ski sports.Gimme a good reason to swing by Tolbert's!

Even doing a triathalon, the time spent changing shoes will more than take care of itself when pedaling. You can get some quality velcro closure shoes and it will only cost you a few seconds.

Toe cages are OK at best. If you are going to put on any number of miles, clipless is so much more efficient and comfortable it is amazing.

Learn how to make nice round pedal strokes, and your efficiency goes up even more.

By efficiency, I mean not only making more power, but also less energy spent by you while spinning. Basically you go faster with less effort when you combine good technique with good equipment.
