My son is "behind" where I was at his age, hunting wise. He's 11. When I was 11 I'd killed a lot of hogs, turkey and deer. He hasn't because of circumstances around his mom (my ex) and I. However, that appears to be in the rear view now. He is embracing shooting/hunting.
Today I had him shooting a .22 rifle at first. Doing very basic, iron sight marksmanship. Then we moved to the AR. He's fired it before, but today we got to cover some good basics. He was shooting milk jugs full of water and got to see the "cool" explosion. He was pumped.
So in some ways, he's ahead of where I was at his age. I hadn't fired an AR when I was 11, and he has. So it's looking positive.
I'm going to bring him to Bownanza to be around like minded men. He's more connected to the old school ways than he knows, he just has to find it.
