Quality Telescope

Ok, my kiddo would like to get a telescope. She got one for Christmas a couple years back, but its not that good.

I'd like to get a good one, but I'm clueless on what is a good one vs getting something she already has.

I'd go with a Meade ETX with auto star, find them on Craigs for a couple a hundred, and they make amazing spotting scopes too.

Just like everything else the bigger you go the better. I had a 4 inch telescope several years ago and it was an excellent beginner. Not long after I got it the ones with GPS and auto-tracking came out and I sure wish I had waited and gotten one of those, easier to setup and would autotrack what you were viewing so you diddn't have to constantly adjust the scope.

Look at Telescopes.com and you will fine more info than you can handle. Meade and Celestron both make good beginner scopes without spending a fortune.
