Buddy just tanked on the Africa trip

This sucks. My hunting buddy from college and I were planning to go to Africa this May. Everything was all set. Safari booked, plane tickets booked, a stay at the Afton house and travel to the concession.

    He got laid off Monday.

Finding another job takes priority. I understand that. He can't go.

This really sucks. His deposit is non-refundable (he knew that ahead of time). I don't know if he can even get his plane ticket refunded or transfer it. (I don't think he can.)

I'm still going but I was really looking forward to him being along. I'm really bummed for him. We got one heck of a good deal for this trip. This was a once in a lifetime chance for him and he was oh so close

Dang how much did he have in the trip? Might sit down and do the math and figure out just how much he would be getting paid per day if he found another job and how much he would be losing per day if didn't go. If he would be losing more per day than he would be making then get on that plane from a pure economic stand point as I would hate to see all that money just flush down the toilet.

I was scheduled to go in 2012 but there was a problem with my wife's visa (She wasn't a US citizen at the time) so they wouldn't let us board the plane. Called my outfitter and he said, no problem we'll push it to the next year. Called the airlines and cancelled the tickets but had the credit on the account and a year to use it. Rebooked for 9 months later, paid the change fee on the plane tickets and away we were. Sure, cost a couple hundred extra for the change fees, but better than losing everything. Outfitter should let him apply his deposit to a future date. If not, I'm not sure I'd use that outfitter.

The Afton house is nice. Steaks cooked in the backyard. The neighborhood is one big compound. It's wild. Did you book with Limcroma?
Sorry to hear about your buddy.

He has about $2000 in it. We got deeply discounted airfare to East London and the deposit was not huge.

Looking forward to the stay at the Afton house. Heard lots of good things about it.

We booked with Hunters Hill on the eastern cape. I've hunted Africa before with a bow. Limpopo province is awesome for that I really enjoyed it. Honestly, best bowhunting ever in that province. However, the Eastern Cape is much more open, so this time it may be a gun fight!
