Difference between an M4 and AR15

Maybe a stupid question but I'm just curious if someone can tell me the differences. Does the M4 shoot 3 round bursts?

The m4 is the military designation but it is an ar15 (the civilian term) configured in a certain way.. Meaning a "real m4" is a 16" Carbine, collapsible stock, flat top upper reciever..

    Here is good info..

The M4 has a collapsable stock for close quarter combat. The AR15 is just the standard stock.
Whether it has 3 round bursts or not is what it is made to do.

        Close.....

AR15 is a cvilian version of the M-16.

The M-16A2 has a 3 round burst, and the M-16A1 and earlier versions were full auto, with all having semi-auto features.

M-4, too my knowledge (cause it came out after my time), is like the old CAR-15, which had a shorter barrel and a collapsable stock.

They have all types of goodies on them like pycatinny (sp?) rails, flat-tops, blah, blah, blah.....
        Ultramatic Feeders

We're paratroopers, Lieutenant. We're supposed to be surrounded......

M4 to my knowledge is the carbine version of the m16. Collapsible stock and 16" barrel.

Yep, collapsible stock, 16" barrel on the carbine version, flat top upper, and some of them had feed ramps to aid in feeding full auto weapons.

Thanks for the info. As far as I could tell they were farely similar with the exception of the size.

They are the same rifle but the m4 is shorter. That is the only difference in them.

Sweet camo job on the scope David. I really like it. While we're on the subject.

How often must one change out gas rings on the bolt?

Pretty much only when they are worn?

                          Next question.

What signs of wear and how many shots can you go through before having problems with your trigger group???

Travis, actually that's just tape on the scope. It's the stretchy stuff that's made like medical bandage tape that only sticks to itself, not to the underlying surface. Works pretty good except that when I slid my rifle into the case, the piece on the front of the scope rolled up on the edge.

I basically just placed a wrap of the tape wherever there was a part of the scope that was round cylinder (not sloped) between the rings, etc. to break up the solid black color. If you click on the picture above and go to the original size, you can get a better look at the tape.
