    Coyote Predator Management

The farmer who owns my lease called me today to give me some good news and some bad news. The good news is that he has seen roughly 17 deer together on the same pattern path as last year. The bad news is he says their is a pack of coyotes running that same path a day later. He claims they are huge and were about 8 of them. Now I have never seen that many together out there or ever as a matter of fact. Anyone have any tips on how to cut their numbers back? I've never intentionally gone after coyotes and don't know anything about hunting them. Any advice would be appreciated.

Fox Pro and get out there often. DO NOT EDUCATE THEM!

Fun off season sport. There are a few members here that will give you some good tips on trapping if that is the route you want to go.

      Good Luck!

At first call them early morning, not at night, because like Carbon said, you don't want to educate them. Use an e-caller and wait for more than the first one to come in if you can, so you can take a couple out at the same time.
Also setup some snares if you have a good place for them. Last week my neighbor snared 8 yotes in two days with 5 snares!

I have seen packs chasing does when they are about to fawn. Relentless just training them to eat a fresh fawn. Coyotes are bad on deer. Another guy had some axis inside a high fence and coyotes were getting in and killed 12 axis does.

Have never tried trapping before but I'm very interested in this. Anyone here able to point me in the right direction or walk me through it?

However, I prefer to have my fun with the fox pro. Have call will travel.

Agreed. FoxPro/decoy and a gun. That's way more fun!

Im thinking TBH Predator comp at your place. Held over several weekends. Side pots for most head shots.

How hard is it to call them with a tail/critter decoy and a caller?

In my experience it's not hard at all. That is until they've been educated, then it can be very difficult, if not impossible.

I dont reccomend snares to people unless they know exactly what they are looking at and know what they are doing...one wrong placement and you have a non target animal and easily a deer...

Stick with leghold traps or calling...
