    Hunting with a camera

Well for about 20 years I've been videoing (sp) all my hunts just for my memories. Some scouting vids lotsa kill shots but no "recoveries" on film. Recently I've come to realize how friggin hard it can be to video a hunt for TV. Before it was if I got the shot great but if not no biggy. Not the case now. I had a really nice
mid 150's MLD buck in my sights for 30 minutes but not enough camera light. Coulda shot him a bazillion times but not on camera. Frustrating to say the least. Watched him walk away. I tripped on my lip several times on my way back to camp. I did get footage of the deer but its awful grainy.

          love that old footage! pioneer!
I bought one of the first consumer video cameras back in the 70s. The thing was like 4 grand and it was like hauling around an Oldsmobile and hello grainy!! still pretty cool for the day.

Was filmed Sunday zoomed out all the way and low light. Forgot to turn off digital zoom. I'm still learning. No shot =no show. Had to let him walk. Sad face

I feel your pain! Lol! Videoing adds a new layer of difficulty to hunting but filming for TV add a new layer of HELL! Lol!

Everything has to be perfect and how many hunts do you go on where everything goes perfectly?? Wait till you double tap the record button or forget to double check focus after a deer takes 2 steps or, after a kill shot, you realize you bumped a setting on the camera when you shouldered it and the footage isn't pristine! Lol! All those fears amount to a lot of pressure that can take a slice out if the enjoyment factor. Lol! But when it works, and the footage is a smash, there's no more rewarding feeling!

All of this^^^^^^ It's just as stressful for the camera man as it is the hunter. Team effort

I was in a blind where I couldn't fit a cameraman. Was tight for me and my backpack. Was very stressful he was dead to rights but I needed it on film. Such a great deer too. I've posted a few on YouTube but not a lot
