    Used bows

Ok, so some know that I am looking at used bows right now. Being that I am new and don't know much and have a limited budget, what should I be looking for when considering a bow?

I have always wanted to get into bow hunting but I have just never took the steps to do it. After being diagnosed with MS a little over a year ago, but doing very well, I and tired of always wanting to do something and never doing it. So, while I'm still able to, its time.

Can anyone give me opinions about the Bowtech Stalkers that Live2hunt has in the classifieds? Don't know anything about them, so any info would be great.

    Thanks for helping out!

What kind of bow is pretty much like ... ford, dodge, chevy,....gas vs diesel.

You want something fairly new 2004 on up.

You want right or left hand, and you want either 50 - 60 lbs limbs or 60 - 70 lbs limbs. (go to a bow shop and shoot a few of each so you know what weight you want)
Keep in mind, you will be able to increase the weight after all those little muscles learn to work together.

You want something that is ready to shoot. Sight, rest, ect..

Best if it comes with a few arrows, so you know what size to buy.

Then just look for something that meets those criteria and is in your price range.

These are the exact things I looked for and I got a bow (from the clissifieds here) that met everything I wanted for 200 bucks.
July will be a year since I bought it, havent had a single problem.

    Hope this helps.

      Thanks kfd82,
I know I'm RH, 29 inch draw length and probably want to stay around the 55-60 pound range.

        Good deal...
just so you know, the draw on most bows is adjustable from about 28 - 31 but thats just a ballpark figure, be sure to ask who ever you buy from what the adjustment range is.
Good luck to you. The classifieds here are great.

I bought my bow, binoculars, the tires on my truck, the tool box on my truck, 2 deer feeders, and probably some other stuff too from the classifieds here.

I used to own a Stalker and only sold it (cheap to a friend of a friend) to help get another person addicted.

The one I had (they made a Stalker & a Stalker light) had a huge brace height of somewhere near 8". (which is a good thing in a hunting bow)

The bow had a little kick to it during the shot, but nothing offensive.

It always shot true and I was very accurate with it.

If that is the amount of money you are looking to spend I don't see where you could go wrong with the ones listed in the classifieds.

Can I ask what's your budget? That would help answer your question better.

A good friend of mine has had MS for years and he still bow hunts.

Today is a great day to start!

Practice and when you go hunting, stick to ground blinds.

Yes, but you need to be a wounded soldier to receive one. However, he will sure help you out if you get up that way. He's a super nice guy who always tries to help people.

I think you can get into a new bow setup for what you are willing to spend on a used bow. Diamond makes some great "entry" level bows and Mission is now out there to get you in the right direction.

I would go the New bow route because of the warranty issue. Second hand bows are not warranted and can bust on you the first time you draw it. and it doesn't matter if anyone tells you "never been dry fired" or "I took really good care of it". Truth is, you buy a used bow and it pops, you just threw money out the window.

buy the new one in the economy class.

on buying stuff on TBH....nothing wrong with it...most are great people to deal with. I sold kfd his tires last year

Some bow shops will have good used bows for sale. I would recommend Arlington bow hunting world. He normally has some quality used bows in stock. Going though him you will have one that fits you and is properly setup. His number is (817)478-5990. I think he will be out of town this weekend so its best to call first.

The Mission's lowest cost lists for $330, by the time you add a rest, release, quiver, sight and arrows, I'll guess you'll be $600 vicinity.

If you have concerns with your future strength with MS, a 50 pound bow and sharp broadheads and a good shot will kill anything you are hunting in Texas. Don't 'overbow' yourself and loose interest in the future because you bought something incorrect today.

Shooting trad equipment, like I do alot now, you could be hunting with a 40-45 pound recurve used for under $300 with arrows, tab, armguard.

If I were you, I'd find a few local archery clubs and archery stores and call their presidents/ owners. Explain your situation and see if they are aware of somebody willing to sell a used bow setup at a good price. There's an amazing # of good people in the world, just look at TBH.
