Proposed antler restriction Bill in Oklahoma

Well it looks like one of our fine representatives up here in Oklahoma decided to create a bill for antler restrictions here. To say the least it is a very amusing bill. I know there are quite a few of you on here that hunt in Oklahoma and would be interested in this new bill and thought I would see what the consensus on here is about this proposed bill.


House Bill 2978 by Rep. Schwartz. Requiring whitetail deer to have at least six points on one side of the rack to be legal game. Setting the limit of antlered whitetail deer during open deer gun season at two. Specifying that antler-point restrictions do not apply to hunters under 16 years of age. Bill has an effective date of Nov. 1, 2014. Assigned to the House Agricultural and Wildlife Committee.

I don't think it's needed in Oklahoma... OK and Kansas have the two lowest yearling buck harvest rates in the nation

Given that 6 on one side is only about 10 percent of your herd at full maturity, not going to be many bucks killed in okieland anymore if that passes.

6 is dang bold but it wont hurt my feelings any as it can only improve the deer on the southern Kansas border where I bowhunt! Good luck as 6 is asking a lot but 2 buck deer is plenty!

What are the various antler restrictions across America? 13", 15"....

Right now it is only 1 buck with rifle. Two bucks total for the year.

Hopefully that means 6 total and not 6 on one side. Oklahoma has a lot of non typicals but there are still some great looking mature typical 8's and 10's

Nope he proposed 6 points on one side not both.
