Invite your local government trapper out. We hired one to help with a coyote problem a few years back and as a side benefit he killed a whole mess of the black headed vultures while he was here.

Why arent they considered "exotic wildlife"? They are non-native and they threaten native critters as well as livestock. I've often wondered why they are protected here. Buzzards I can see because of the natural role they play in our ecosystem. But the mexican birds are a whole nother matter.

That is bad for sure but one question. Why would a rancher have his cows bred to calve now in the dead of winter instead of the spring?

No doubt I would handle it right then and there. Don't need the Feds involved when I'm dealing with my livelyhood.

I watched them attacking a guys sheep one day while they were dropping babies. Went and told the rancher and he asked why didn't I shoot them? Told him I just chased them off but they didn't go far. He had already lost several newborns to them in the previous couple of days.

The Ag Extension office was called by the rancher, for a coyote/coon problem. Call was passed to me and I went out to look and survey what was need to hit the problem as hard as I could, once out there I was notified of the bird problem and knew that I had to have a Federal depredation permit to even touch it.

When it comes to trapping I run a pretty tight ship and stay in touch with our wardens and area biologists. I have been in contact with two since yesterday as well as our local Ft Worth TPWD office..

                      Their reply..Wait for USFW..

The rancher game me maps of all of his properties yesterday and asked how soon I could get started. I hit one pasture and a small tree line and started laying steel, put out 5 coyote sets and 6 coon sets..

3 coyotes and a single coon this morning... When the sun comes up I will hit some of the other properties and get more steel out..

The hog issue he has wreaked all the other trap sets that I had out, seems as if I need to build a few figure six hogs traps as well..

As for the bird problem...I will see what USFW has to say today..

Mexican Black Vulture.....NOT the American Turkey Buzzard..

They are no longer called Mexican buzzards. They are to be called undocumented worker buzzards! Illegal immigrant buzzards works too! Probably get free health care too.

No, see pic above. They make a caracara seem like a song bird.

This may be the only time of year there is green forage to produce milk if winter grasses were planted. In the heat of the summer there may be a drought. Certainly could be one in the winter, or maybe irrigated. Obviously they planned their marketing plan to suit their needs.

Ding ding ding you win, cows produce more milk in the winter than the summer.

Also if you want to call and ask permission, call your game warden and ask if he cares and explain the situation. I know that they will tell you to go ahead and solve that problem. Who else is going to come inforce this law?
