Tying tree steps to a tree knot

I've always used screw in steps but this application won't allow. I don't wanna use straps. There are ropes attached that I wanna tie but cant seem to get it tight enough to the tree.

Can you use a cordless drill and drill the knot out and then screw in the step?
    Pre drill an undersized hole.

Unless u are using something with extremely low stretch like cable I dont think u can pull it tight enough. Your body weight is going to stretch the rope more than your hands can to tie the knot.

Skip the tree steps and get a ladder. Climbing sticks work great and there are different styles to choose from for different types of trees.

Make a ½ hitch in the rope with a loop exposed...then take the tag end of the rope through this lookand pull back 180°. EEffectively a pulley allowing the rope to get very tight.

You might tie a riggers knot but I would guess the rope has too much stretch and wouldn't work. The riggers knot can cinch something down tight but I doubt it will work with a tree step.
