How long should this process take?
Here's the deal. Killed an 8 point right before Christmas. Hung the skull (full hide and all)up to to do something with the next day. 3 week later I remembered it. By this time, the kids was hard as a rock. I found a thread here about using the RidEx in a bucket of water, so in it went. It's also covered in a black plastic bag. Problem is, I don't want to( can't stand the smell) check on it to see how it's doing. I know the process depends largely on temperature inside the bucket/bag. Will this take 1 month? 6 months?

Have one going now but used an aquarium heater for the water. Everything I read said 7-10 days when using the heater and ridx

Used a big tamale pot and the small box of ridx with enough water to cover the head. I will try to remember to post up progress. Think there was a thread on this a while back

You don't need rid x. Just use the aquarium heater.

Heat is the key. Rid x speeds up the process... But cold will delay it months.

I was setting on a cold bucket + skull for weeks with no progress. I added an aquarium heater and rid ex and it was done in 2 weeks.

This latest time i decided to boil one. And it's way faster. But you need somewhere to boil it outside. And with the Weather we've been having I'm having hell keeping it boiling. it's snowing today.

I usually boil but wanted to try the rid x method. Maybe put some foil over the top to help hold some heat in

Remember after you get all the meat off you need to use some dawn soap to degrease it. Don't use the pink stuff... My skull turned pink tinted and i had to rinse it a few extra days to get it white again.

Then bleach with the sally beauty dept stuff. I make a paste and use that.

Update. I opened up the trash bags to check on the skulls. No hide left, but the eyeballs were still there. I only looked for about 3 seconds, cause that's about how long I could hold my breath. Bad. Bad. Bad. I guess they are ready to take to the car wash. Will update with pictures as soon as I get that done.
