    Hydro mulching/seeding

Anyone ever had their yard seeded this way? We have a little over a half acre lot so I'm looking for alternatives to sod.

We have hydromulched acres and acres. Works great and way cheaper than sod. Be sure to diligently water it in for a couple weeks. And don't do it until around May. You'll be mowing before you know it.

Like mentioned above when you get it done make sure you are supplimenting water until it germinates and establishes

I seed any time I can get a good seed bed, and recommend hydromulching if you don't want to do a lot of soil prep. Both are effective provided they are watered diligently.

Best of luck. Don't mean to hijack your thread but I need help with grass also.

Is Zoysia drought tolerant and shade tolerant? I have an area next to my home that is shaded and sandy loam. I sodded with San Augustine a few years ago and lost it, re-seeded with Bermuda two years in a row and lost all of that. I need something that doesn't require a lot of moisture plus can be in the shade for about half the day. Thanks.

Again, I apologize for jumping in on ya.

Sprayed Hydro-mulch for 4 years from Brazos Valley to South Texas.

Ag Hunter- with a good inground sprinkler system or a temporary above ground sprinkler system and some decent ground work you will be fine with having your yard sprayed. Scarify or rough up the first 2-3 inches or put down at least 2" of compost/weed-free topsoil. Any of the bermudas would be a good choice for you. Have contractor use a good mulch preferably with 25% wood/75% paper. If you have any moderately sloped areas, increase the wood % and/or apply a tackifier.

Splitfinger - I don't know where you are but you may just have a worn out patch of ground. Have you had any soil samples tested? Zoysia/any grass will be good if its in good soil. Your soil is what holds the nutrients and water so look into that before more grass. May consider do a little trimming or thinning of your trees, not saying cut them down but open up some branches if you can.

Any TBH contractors that cover the Beaumont/Lumberton area? Looking to schedule something for next week.

Last I checked Zoysia is not available in seed. Like fullsizeaggie stated, it is all about the prep work to your soil and then water the heck out of it until it is well established.

I had my 1 acre lot sprayed working up on 3 years ago. I learned a few things:
                      1. If you don't have good top soil, get it.
                      2. I can really tell where I had broken up the top few inches of soil prior to application and where I hadn't.
                      3. My entire front area has a sprinkler system and I was able to keep it wet at all times. Whereas in the back I wasn't fully covered and was watering half the back yard thoroughly every other day. 100% sprinkler coverage and watering 4 times a day (for the first couple weeks then I scaled back to twice a day) = great coverage. All the other areas struggled.
                      4. Don't expect a great lawn immediately. I knew this for the most part, but weed control is a choir. Stay on top of pre and post emergent weed control measures and you should be okay. Now in my 3rd year and the front lawn is really starting to look good.
                      5. I sprayed late June or early July which I think is too late. The summer heat made it nearly impossible to keep moisture in the soil. You should have seen some of my water bills (rural water supply)!

FYI I used Riveria Bermuda. If I could do it all over again I would break up the top crust more than I had and I would bring in a layer of compost and mix it with the broken up top soil.
