I wanted to put the word out to everyone on TBH about the excellent service I received last weekend at Grogan's Feed Store in San Angelo.
To give you a little background on my quest; it all started when Zach (TBH handle 8pointer) and I recently acquired a new deer lease in Christoval (35 miles south of San Angelo). This is a great hunting ranch except for the fact that it's covered in caliche rock/limestone/shale etc... We attempted the manual driving of tposts but after about 40 whacks we were only 8 inches down.... No way would manual process work for 60 tposts... atleast not at my age and shape!
After a long search of a pneumatic driver within an acceptable price range I came across one at Grogan's Feed/Farm Supply in San Angelo. I called the guys down there and offered to pay for it over the phone. The item was ~ $2k and I didn't expect them to hold it for a week until I could get down there and seeing as this is the only one they had in stock. They said "no problem- we'll hold for you and just call if you change your mind". I gave them my first name and they took it off the floor.
Zach and I were showing the lease all day and signing up new hunters. We had about hour before they closed on Saturday with about a 30 minute drive to San Angelo. I called them on the way and said I was coming to get the driver. The guy was extremely nice, knew my name, and said come on. I walk and they greated me by name and asked if I had a few minutes to talk to the owner. I said sure..
The Owner comes and shakes our hands and asks what our plans are with the driver. I explain all and that I needed a driver and compressor to work it. He says that while he would love to sell me the driver/compressor but that wasn't sure it would do what we expected in the area where we were planning to work... and would he hate for me to spend a lot of $$$ and then come back upset. I was a taken back by his honesty.. This would have been a fairly large purchase and who questions where someone would use power tools. Not only that, but I spoke to the manufacturer of the product he said it would work...
The next part is what I really appreciate about Grogan's. Mr. Grogan told me to go across the street to Home Depot and rent a 35lb rock hammer drill with a compressor and predrill the holes for the posts. We thanked him a ton and headed to Home Depot.
The next morning we woke at the crack of dawn and starting working. We had a few spots that were solid rock but other than that it worked true to his word! We finished all 60 posts by dinner!
These guys at Grogan's are top notch and will have my corn and protein business year round! It's not as convenient for us but I'll drive further to their store just to return the favor!
I can't say how impressed I am that there is a store like Grogan's...One that provides great and honest service. These guys didn't end up selling me anything that day but I will return the favor by sharing this story with as many people as I can. And I'll buy my feed from them too!
