Preparing a roasted backstrap for tonight, and wondered if anyone had any unusual bottles (other than the standard California Cab Sav) that would match up well. To get things started, one bottle I know I will serve is a 2004 Texas super tuscan called Bellissimo that we picked up at GrapeCreek Vineyards outside of Fredericksburg a couple months ago. I don't know where else you can buy it, but if you're driving out 290 east of Fredericksburg, I suggest you buy a couple of bottles; it goes excellent with venison!

If you can find an Italian Chianti Classico (not your cheap, table chianti) called Badia a Coltibuono (Abbey of the Good Harvest), buy a bottle or 2. I toured there when we were on vacation in Italy in 1999. I've had it with game and it's great.
My daughter's supposed to be working a day a week at 2 different Cali vineyards in the retail/ tasting rooms on summer break (plus coaching tennis, plus working for a local Realtor in his office- both my kids work their butts off).
