    Question about corn

Any reason that buying corn now for next season is a bad idea?I know it will get weevils, but in my opinion that really doesn't matter, it's just used as an attractant. Am I wrong?

If you can afford it now, then you better jump on it!! With all the flooding in the midwest, there might be a severe shortage next year. This will also affect soybeans, and wheat, so food prices are going to keep increasing like gas prices

I am worried about getting mice in my garage {and then my home}. I am going to try to find a local supplier as there are folks that grow corn in the area.

There is stuff you can mix with it to help with the weevils

Or if you have a room you can shut it off in moth balls work well in keeping weevils away.

We buy alot of our feed "on the books" Pay the current price for it now and pick it up as you go. No storage troubles that way.

You can store it in sealed 55 gallon drums. For those of you that have welders and oxy-acetylene rigs you can get a small cylinder of nitrogen from your supplier and purge the barrel with nitrogen and then seal it. It will last forever.

As a quick and dirty way (but more expensive) to do the same thing would be to throw a few pounds of dry ice on top of the corn before you seal the drum.

I know that Johnny put his foodplot seeds in cold storage to keep the bugs out.

I'm guessing it works for corn also.

There is a bid difference between corn and turnip seed though.

Worked at a grain elevator for summer job in highschool, we would add malathion dust to bulk corn augered into silo. With bag corn we would spay a pyrethrin or pyrethroid on outside of bag.

If you are buying in bulk or storing in bulk, ie outside the bag, you can mix in some DE. Diatomatious Earth (sp) is a natural insect repellant/killer. Also works as an anti caking agent.
