That's good. He is the only sherrif with the stones to make prison feel like prison. If the entire justice system would switch to harsher conditions in prison and get away from the day camp it has become, people would think twice about committing crimes.

Vernon Parrish in La used to be that way, seems like the prisoners that opted to stay in their cells instead of working at the pea farm were always last to eat. The down side of that was that there was usually no meat left by the time they got to eat and they became vegetarians or decided to start helping with the raising of vegetables so they could eat meat.

More jails need to be run like his. Not hotels and nothing about being there should be pleasant. I've always wondered why we have a single scrap of litter on our roads while we still have people in jail cells. Chain gangs should be an everyday sight.

I agree jail/prison time should be uncomfortable.
I remember seeing them when I was a kid driving down to Huntsville with my grandpa. There were always being watched by guards on horses with rifles.
