Silverton, Colorado trail riders chime in!!

Im looking at possibly booking a cabin to stay in Silverton this summer Late July early August. Do any of you have recommendations? Ill be taking the Polaris Ranger up there to ride the trails for a week. I might have a few families involved as well to split the cost.

Lets hear it so I can look em up and try to get this trip booked.

We stayed in Durango so no info there, but we did rent a jeep and do some of the loop. It was awesome but I would've much rather been in a Ranger.

Let me know if you're interested in a horse back ride. We hired a mule deer/elk guide and he trailered his horses up pretty close to Silverton. It wasn't cheap but it was awesome!

Ophir Pass is really cool. It crosses over to Telluride, well a couple miles outside Telluride. Took that one and Imogene Pass from Telluride to Ouray. They are both really cool.

there are lots of RV campgrounds around or NF campgrounds you might consider. save a little and cook outside makes for a better trip.

Cant help you with cabins, but you need to ride the train from Silverton to Durango while you're there.

You would not be disappointed with "a Riverside Resort" just outside of Durango towards Silverton. They have cabins and RV pads on the Animas River banks. Beautiful place. Horse back riding 5mins. up the road. Silverton is about a 30-45 minute ride from resort. 10-15 mins. from downtown Durango.
            Fair pricing too!

There is a trail that goes up over the divide and comes out at rio grande reservoir. it is 33 miles each way but beautiful.

I have been on the divide in another area North of Creede. Rat Creek is the trail. Great ride. One spot, it was all my crew 800 wanted in 4 low. Felt like I was towing 10K lbs behind it. We made it though.

One day we did a 110 mile trip from between Lake City and Creede to Silverton. I forget all the trails, but Cinnamon, Stoney, Carson, are a few we made in one day. I really liked it over in Silverton, that is why we are really leaning to going there this year.

Take a spare rear axel with you and know how to replace it. A spare tire too. I'm no help on lodging, we camped in the mountains last August.

Lots of houses to rent in Silverton. Our family of 13 stayed there a few years back. We stayed at the Snowed in Lodge. It is owned by Silverton Property Management. It is $1600-$1800 per week. Nice place. They have many others, too.
Our only problem was hot water. When we got in from riding the trails, everyone needed a shower. Not enough hot water for everyone consecutively. It's close enough to the main drag for the kids to ride their bikes to the shops, and we felt safe turning the older kids loose to go on their own for short times. Not much good dining in Silverton, and we split up cooking duty and cleaning duty between smaller family units each night.
We took 3 4-wheelers and rented either a mule or jeep also, everyday. There are lots of other trails to ride off the Alpine Loop. My favorite was Huricane Pass. Lee did Engineer Pass, Cinammon Pass and a couple of others. We never made the whole loop. That will be another trip.
                          Have fun.

What about extra fuel? It seems like My brothers 800 crew drinks the gas....
