Yet another Barn-dominium build (long read)

After seeing a few of you guys share your new home build the last few days, I thought I would share mine.

My dad passed away 4 years ago and his property (where I grew up) as just sat dormant since. About 6 months ago my siblings started talking about what we should do with the place and since my wife and I had our little girl we have been wanting to get back closer to family. I had a talk with my brothers and sisters and asked them if we could just agree on a price that I could buy the place. They all said that I could just have the place since I have been paying the taxes on it.

That was very nice of them and I am grateful but that started a long legal phase because my dad had no will when he died. What had to happen was an affidavit of heirship. One small problem with that is that I have 1 brother and 1 sister that have passed away so their part was passed down to their 5 children. After about 4 months of chasing down a total of 11 heirs I finally got the paperwork in place and the deed changed into my name.

While I was working on all of that, I started getting some rough draft plans in place and after making several changes we finally got a final draft of our future dream home.

The property is 4.8 acres that was completely grown up in hackberry trees and about $3,000 worth of scrap iron scattered thoughout the entire property.

Now that I am passed all the legal hurdles, closed with the title company and loan secured, we are finally on our way. The first phase of the project was clearing the property and digging a very large hole to push the old house and brush into to burn. Here are pics from day 1 (December 9th) up until now. Hopefully weather permitting they will pour concrete Monday. What you can't see in the pics is there are a 44 peers drilled 20 ft deep in the foundation.

Well I just noticed that it posted all pics that I have so far. So here it is all the way up to the foundation with plumbing done. The guys are supposed to get the plastic and steel put down today.

My latest plans are at home but here are the next to last set. The only difference is that we extended the house 10ft on the bedroom end to open up that end of the house a little.

It is hard to see in these pics but in the far left background there sits 17 mustangs ranging from 66-72. I already sold a 1929 pontiac and 1949 studebaker.
